Door by Matharoo Associates.
At 17 feet tall and 5 feet wide, the door is comprised of a series of 40 sections of Burmese teak, each nearly 1 foot thick. When closed, each section stacks one on top of the other but upon pushing on any one portion the door reshapes into a sinusoidal curve revealing the entrance to the Indian home of the diamond merchant for whom it was built. As for the nitty gritty, the complex mechanics are entirely enclosed within the door’s single pivot, which houses 80 ball bearings, 160 pulleys, and 1 wire rope and counterweight.
